Dr.Kausik Ghosh is an orthopaedic surgeon, an actor, public speaker and poet. As a professional photographer, he has had fourteen solo exhibitions in his home city, Kolkata, India. He has also published twelve photography books till date. An alumnus of Don Bosco School, Park Circus and Calcutta National Medical College, this web-site and e-commerce site of his is the amalgamation of his work over the last nineteen years. It show-cases the photographs displayed earlier in his exhibitions, other archival work in different categories and the events organized in the last two decades. The site also has sections offering glimpses of the published books so that a prospective client may leaf through electronic versions of the books if intent on purchase. Any prospective client may forage through the photographs and if intent on purchasing prints of the works may view each picture with different frames and against various wall-colour backgrounds. The prints may be made to order on canvas/archival paper/vinyl with/without lamination and the prints may be encased in glass if requested. Time of delivery of the prints / books will depend on the geographical location of the client and courier charges shall apply over the price of the print. The results have been always incomplete : in their import, impact and sensitivity.The journey has been exhilarating. It has been augmented both by appreciation and criticism of connoisseurs, family and friends.
I have been an orthopaedic surgeon for over 33 years. I have dabbled in acting, on stage and in films over 19 years. I have been a poet, have been involved actively in public speaking for decades. All of these activities besides my primary job as a medical professional have been spurred by a restless energy and an existential crisis. Folk may dub me a "Jack of all trades, master of none". However my satisfaction is that I have always been trying to be different & attempting to leave an imprint, albeit imperfect, on the world in general.
I am not a formally trained photographer. My photographic journey has not been tempered or strengthened by any astute, comprehensive knowledge of the technical nuances of the camera. Rather, it has been based on my imagination and a definite sense of concrete composition. I have learned a lot from my de facto guru the legendary, internationally acclaimed photographer Nemai Ghosh. I have been profoundly influenced by the corpus of work of Bresson, Capa, Ansel Adams, Stieglitz, Selgado. I feel that to take a remarkable, influential photograph, you need to compose the scene/object with your head, edit with your heart, hue with your imagination : and then & only then pick up the camera to take the shot.
